One year ago, today, I took the largest leap of my life. I filmed my episode of Shark Tank!
The doors opened, and I walked down the long hallway to the set of Shark Tank having no idea what the next 45 minutes would look like. I stood in the spot marked with an “X” and waited while all the Sharks just stared back at me. It was like 30-45 seconds, but it felt like a lifetime. There I was just smiling from ear to ear but on the inside completely shaking from head to toe while Mark Cubin, Lori Greiner, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran and FREAKIN A-ROD (yes Alex Rodriguez) sized me up and down. I had to sit and wait for the lighting to be adjusted and then I heard the word “go” and I had to give the pitch of a lifetime. You only get ONE SHOT!
With my families help, I prepared for this moment for months… I was ready, but there is no “script” so it can go many different ways in The Tank. You have to prepare for it all! The only scripted moment in The Tank is the initial minute and a half pitch. After that, it’s a free for all. If you have watched the show then you know how they can pick apart products, entrepreneur’s, business models and evaluations. When an Entrepreneur goes into The Tank they are fully aware of the risks they are taking, and they are huge ones. No one loves your product and your company like you do. I have, as most do as well, put my everything into this product and business to get to this point and all the “What ifs?” start to creep in. There are so many “what ifs” when you put yourself out there but at that moment I realized… isn’t life full of “what ifs”? Every choice and decision you make in life has its consequences and can change your trajectory… that starts at such a young age and it is no different now. I knew I had to bring it!
I felt confident but so scared… all at the same time. Have you ever felt like that? If not, you need to make that a new challenge. I highly recommend it! It is the most insane adrenaline rush I had ever experienced. 3 years ago (next week) when I started this company I thought that moment was the biggest leap of faith of my life, but in actuality… every step I have taken to get to this point has been bigger then the last. Every win gave me more confidence in myself and every loss made me stronger and more appreciative of the win.
When I look back at my life story and who I am I realize that so many times in my life I took leaps of faith. We all do! It did not begin with GloveStix. Some leaps worked out… and some didn’t but they all made me the person I am today. No matter the leap… it was big to me at the time and no matter the end result, I am still here alive and kicking! I feel so proud of the things I have been able to accomplish, more now than ever. GloveStix has given me that! My family, friends and customers, who have stood by me and supported and shared not only about my product but also how my story inspired them, YOU ALL give me that! The messages, the emails, the kind words shared from complete strangers… unforgettable and inspiring! I would have never experienced any of that however if I didn’t take this HUGE LEAP!
So, what are you waiting for? I am starting this blog to share my leaps of faith and all my adventures, the ups and downs, hoping that it will one day encourage even just one of you to do the same. I would love to share some important things I have learned while starting a company with NO EXPERIENCE, some behind the scenes of the Today Show and my whirlwind Shark Tank adventure. We are all capable of so much more, but you’ll never know what… until you try!
